I grew up in the Stillwater area and have been teaching guitar in the St. Croix valley for the past 19 years. I started teaching at Water Music in 2001 cofounded Valley Music Academy with Steve Strand and Jim Woodhouse in 2003 and now teach out of my home in Oak Park Heights.
My expertise is with stringed fret instruments. This includes all guitars including bass and ukulele. I'm trained in piano but only teach students who already take guitar. I teach blues/jazz, country/bluegrass, rockabilly/rock and hard rock/metal.
I've based my program around the Dr. Suzuki method which puts an emphasis on ears as well as eyes and teaching in a progressive (crawl walk run sprint) style. I believe in incorporating my students favorite songs into my normal curriculum because their's no substitute for passion!!
